Minecraft’s lead game designer Jens Bergensten(known as Jeb) received a fabulous 3d printed gift during the 2016 ChinaJoy Expo. ChinaJoy or China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, is a digital entertainment expo held annually in Shanghai, China. It is the largest gaming and digital entertainment exhibition held in China and Asia.
The mysterious gift was a 3d printed Chinese ancient building in Minecraft, called GuanLan Pavilion, a part from the magnificent masterpiece of Yongle Palace. To reproduce the scene from game to reality, the model data were retrieved directly from the game and sent to a 3D printer.
Minecraft objets usually are printed by full color sandstone material or cheap PLA material. However, the GuanLan Pavilion was printed by a high resolution resin and then hand- painted by artists. The water scene around the Pavilion was made by classical sandbox techniques, which gives the model a dynamic touch. The combination of 3d printing and sandbox demonstrates the model details and prospects to the maximum extent, perfectly fuses the Minecraft style and Chinese architecture.
The digital model was made by the CTHUWork & National.A team and 3d printed by Mohou.com, CTHUWork & National.A team is also known as the builder of the Forbbiden City and the old Summer Palace in the game community.
